Social Media - the revolution continues...

Social Media... its where everyone is..literally. The latest Nielsen Social Media Report has just been released and there are some great insights, if you are in B2B, B2C and not using social media.. you are missing out, it is as simple as that. As we have mentioned in this previous article - to be successful, you must have strategy - why are you using it, what do you want to tell your customers about your business?

Some of our takeawys from this report are:

The study showed that social networks and blogs are the top online destinations, accounting for the majority of time spent online, reaching at least 60% of active Internet users, with Australian's coming in at Number 1 and the US and UK at #9 and #10 respectively

People who are social are more active shoppers 

70% of active adults in social networks shop online.

What this means for your business:  These shoppers are researching, looking for deals and reviews- Use your social media channels to give them what they want!  Set up a deal on Facebook or tweet a discount voucher code. 

Social Media users are mobile

40% of social media users access their favorite sites from a mobile device.

What this means for your business: Allows you to localise and provide realtime deals or information to customers on 4square, Facebook or Twitter

This IS your parents media

Internet users over the age of 55 are driving the growth in social media...and they are doing it on mobile devices.

What this means for your business: Think of these "silver surfers" - they have the time to spend on research, watching videos and will consider customer service reviews before they purchase.

Social media is truly a part of people's daily lives and is still growing rapidly.  As a marketer and business owner, you ignore it at your peril.
