LinkedIn conducted a study in the US to see how small businesses were using social media, and whether it's worth the investment.  The results are displayed in this infographic below and while it is US-centric.  There are some learning here that can definitely be applied to small businesses in Australia.

Certainly I've found that LinkedIn is the best channel for B2B lead generation, as this graph from Hubspot clearly demonstrates.  It's more than twice as effective as Twitter and Facebook.  Which makes sense.  LinkedIn is a professional network, and so conversations that are had on LinkedIn more easily translate into sales conversations.  But don't be selling all the time - the key here is to have a conversation, not a sales pitch.  This guide has some tips on how to make the best use of LinkedIn.
