Last week, Volkswagen released it's Superbowl commercial online, prior to the Superbowl.

When I last looked it had nearly 13 million views since it's Feb. 2 release and the game hasn't even begun yet.

These days it's not enough to have a great 30-second Super Bowl commercial.  Advertisers need to create an ad that resonates not only on TV, but builds the buzz prior to the event.

And Volkswagen have done just that.  This charming spot plays right into the heart of their target market, middle class parents with kids.  It elicits an emotional response using humor and the iconic Star Wars music.  A perfect example that you don't need to (and shouldn't) shout out every feature of your product in your TVCs, and that humor is a great way of creating an emotional connection.  Excellent work VW!
