From sales enablement to Apple watches, to divorcing parents, here are the blog articles that caught my eye this month. Happy reading!blog-reading-list

This article draws an analogy between sales and marketing and divorcing parents.  I haven’t had any experience with divorce, however the line “when sales and marketing are fighting, there’s no attention being paid to what’s best for the client (child)” really resonated.

“Our job as agency owners is not only to deliver leads, but to help our clients turn those leads into new customers and revenue for their businesses."
This couldn’t me be more true.  Rather than shying away from those services, I believe it’s imperative that marketing agencies embrace sales and marketing alignment. This detailed article delves into why this is a good idea.

.id- the population experts continue to produce incredible blog articles.  This one should be of interest to anyone with a passion for Australian real estate and property investing.  .id are providing housing valuation data and rental yields along with economic information via all of their local government client portals.. for free. Read about this update here.

One of my clients posted his first blog article on LinkedIn Pulse on the trend towards business units buying their own IT, without the knowledge of the IT department - Embracing Shadow IT.

Another client wrote and published their first blog post on their own blog – 5 reasons I won’t be buying an Apple Watch.  I love this post because it’s engaging and it reveals Calvin’s personality.. good job!

As a bit of a nerd, I love to have data to evaluate subjective topics.  This article covers a new study that uses an algorithm to assess quality content. As I find with a lot of excellent blogs, the gems are in the comments section.  The discussion on whether an algorithm can truly measure the “value” or “effectiveness” of content was really interesting.

This article on soft skills communicates well the importance of active listening and engagement in the sales process, whether you’re a sales person or climbing the career ladder.  “Where software algorithms cannot compete – persuading, building relationships and so on – will become increasingly valuable.”

Last but not least, my own article on how tricky it is to get personalisation right.  This article also gave me a good excuse to watch old clips of Ferris Bueller in the name of research.
